Out and About with Lori – West Springs
There've always been alot of amenities right in the community as well - Co-Op, Shopper's Drug Mart, Mercato, Starbucks - and many others but more options have recently made their debut.
Phase 1 of the West 85th plaza recently opened and I have to say I'm loving everything about it.
In one small plaza, I was able to do my banking, grab a latte from Waves (if only they had 20 oz!) before heading into my hair appointment at Red Bloom (did you know they carry Aveda products?……no more trekking to Chinook or Market Mall to restock).
I covered a lot of ground that afternoon, but even more so the next time around. This particular visit was even more productive with a stop at Blue Door – fantastic selection of balsamic vinegars & oils – I love a rich almond oil for salad dressing - I used to order it from a shop in BC so am happy it’s now at my doorstep. I then met a favorite client (ok…all my clients are favorites!) for lunch at Vin Room - she lives in the community and had yet to give it a try. With high ceilings, big windows and a relaxing décor it was the perfect spot to catch up.….and the food….very tasty and quite a few gluten free options. I’ve been to the 4th Street Mission location but love the vibe of this new one. There’s also a more secluded space that would be perfect for a glass of wine and appies – definitely on my to-do list.
From there I ventured next door to VR Wines – they didn’t have the wine I went in for but, after getting a feel for what I was looking for, the sommelier Kevin made an alternate suggestion and it was bang on what I was looking for. Did you know they have “tastings” every 3rd Saturday of the month? Also on my to-do list! Next it was off to Ohh La La Patisserie….divine is all I can say. The croissants are to die for (especially the maple ones) – or so my hubby tells me - I can’t do gluten but it was one of those very rare occasions when I sure was tempted! I’ve since picked up a box of Macarons (which are gluten free) to bring to a dinner party along with that recommended bottle of wine – both were a tremendous hit!
I popped into Apt 22 for a very quick browse – will need to get back there sometime soon – they seemed to have some unique clothing pieces and accessories. I’ve made a mental note to check out the doggie spa – Shaggy to Chic – my furry friend needs a nail trim and I wonder if they do cat clips? Will have to check this all out.
There are likely many things that I’ve overlooked – I think there are some still untenanted spots and a bit of an office area with still yet to be explored offerings.
If you live in West Springs or in the general vicinity this “boutique” style plaza has certainly opened up some local shopping options and I’m looking forward to what pops up in Phase 2!
Do you have a great experience to share or checked out something I’ve yet to get to? I’d love if you shared.
